What we do

1. Women Economic empowerment.

At Msichana Imara Foundation, we empower young mothers, out-of-school girls, and women with entrepreneurship skills. We believe that economic empowerment is pivotal in fostering independence, ensuring access to resources, and safeguarding women from violence. Our initiatives focus on enhancing the economic capabilities of young girls and women, particularly those facing significant challenges.

2. Creating a Sustainable Period-Friendly Environment in our community.

Our organization is committed to creating a period-friendly environment in our community. We achieve this by:

  • Providing training to girls on making reusable pads using locally available materials like cotton fabric, waterproof materials, and towels. Learn more through www.mawimbitour.org

  • Ensuring the availability of clean water, incinerators, and period-friendly toilets.

  • Manufacturing of reusable pads for marginalized communities through our local production site.

3. Use of Art to Educate on Sexual Reproductive Health Rights.

Since menstruation remains a taboo topic, we conduct creative workshops using posters, comic pictures, videos, models, and plays to educate girls and boys in and out of school on SRHR. This approach enables trainees to engage with the content effectively and encourages safe discussions about menstruation.

4. Transforming harmful social norms through Community Advocacy.

We collaborate with various stakeholders, including teachers, religious leaders, local government officials, and parents, to advocate for the transformation of harmful social norms. Our efforts focus on combating practices such as early and forced marriage, female genital mutilation, and violence against women. Through collective action, we aim to unleash girls' full potential and create a safer environment for them to thrive.

5. Msichana Imara Foundation Charity Tour.

Annually, we organize a charity tour with a theme dedicated to supporting girls in our community with essential human needs such as food, shelter, and clothing. This event serves as a valuable opportunity to connect with and assist girls, especially those in rural areas while raising awareness about our mission and initiatives.

6. Environmental Conservation.

We collaborate with various stakeholders, including teachers, religious leaders, local government officials, and parents, to advocate for the transformation of harmful social norms.
